<image:title>2025 Events - “Feeding Our Future: Inclusive Postpartum Nutrition and Infant Feeding Support” - Tuesday, May 6, 2025</image:title>
<image:caption>“Feeding Our Future: Inclusive Postpartum Nutrition and Infant Feeding Support” Join us for Day 3 of the National Postpartum Awareness Week for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), a sacred space where we reclaim nourishment as a form of radical self-love and community care. In this powerful virtual gathering, we will explore the challenges and benefits that BIPOC birthing people experience as they seek to nourish themselves and their babies during the 4th trimester and beyond. BIPOC parents who choose to breast/chest feed are more likely to experience difficulties, such as access to affordable and nutritious food, lack of workplace accommodations, toxic and pervasive stress, and a scarcity of reliable information, education and support. Additionally, we will discuss the social and cultural barriers that people of color experience, ranging from negative perceptions about feeding their babies in public, to criticism of those who are unable to successfully breastfeed /chestfeed or who choose to formula feed. The intersections of capitalism, medical racism, and systemic oppression have created food deserts, restricted access to culturally relevant lactation support, and severed communities from their own healing knowledge. It is time to disrupt these cycles and reclaim our right to abundant, affirming postpartum care. This session will uplift holistic, trauma-informed, and culturally rooted approaches to postpartum nourishment and infant feeding. Join us as we explore the vital role of body, mind, spirit, and environment in postpartum healing.</image:caption>

<image:title>2025 Events - “Reclaiming Community Care: Culture, Connection, and Compassion in Postpartum Healing” - Monday, May 5, 2025</image:title>
<image:caption>“Reclaiming Community Care: Culture, Connection, and Compassion in Postpartum Healing” Join us for Day 2 of National Postpartum Awareness Week for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) as we reimagine postpartum care through the lens of community, cultural wisdom, and collective healing. For too long, BIPOC birthing people have had to navigate a reproductive healthcare system that has marginalized their experiences and eroded traditional, community-centered support structures. The impacts of racism, capitalism, and medical oppression have contributed to disproportionate postpartum health disparities, making it essential to return to models of care that uplift ancestral knowledge, mutual aid, and holistic healing. This session will explore how community-centered postpartum care can improve mental, emotional, and physical well-being during the fourth trimester. Experts will discuss the importance of culturally rooted, trauma-informed practices and the necessity of cross-disciplinary collaboration to ensure that all birthing people receive the comprehensive care they deserve. Together, we will reclaim the power of collective care, mutual support, and cultural traditions as essential foundations for postpartum healing and thriving.</image:caption>

<image:title>2025 Events - “Invisible No More: Uplifting the Unheard Postpartum Stories of BIPOC Birthing People” - Wednesday, May 7, 2025</image:title>
<image:caption>“Invisible No More: Uplifting the Unheard Postpartum Stories of BIPOC Birthing People” Join us for Day 4 of the National Postpartum Awareness Week (PAW) for Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC). The postpartum period is a critical time that requires a more comprehensive and intentional approach to care, particularly for Black, Indigenous, and other birthing people of color who are at heightened risk of adverse outcomes. Research shows that BIPOC birthing people are more likely to experience severe complications, inadequate postpartum support, and even maternal mortality during this time. When additional layers of marginalization—such as immigration status, incarceration, substance dependence, and housing insecurity—are present, the risk of harm increases exponentially, making postpartum survival and recovery even more precarious. As part of National Postpartum Awareness Week for BIPOC Birthing People, this session will hold space for those navigating postpartum while also facing systemic barriers. Through a powerful panel discussion and an immersive Playback Theater performance, we will bear witness to the lived experiences that are too often left in the shadows. Playback Theater, a unique form of improvisational storytelling, will bring these stories to life in real time, allowing participants to see their truths reflected back with care, intention, and solidarity. Join us for an evening of storytelling, truth-telling, and transformative witnessing—because no one’s postpartum journey should go unseen or unheard.</image:caption>

<image:title>2025 Events - "Encircled With Care: Holistic Postpartum Mental Health Support for Communities of Color" - Thursday, May 8, 2025</image:title>
<image:caption>"Encircled With Care: Holistic Postpartum Mental Health Support for Communities of Color" Join us for Day 5 of the National Postpartum Awareness Week (PAW) for Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) for this essential conversation on building a circle of care that prioritizes community-driven, culturally rooted postpartum mental health support. Postpartum mental health is deeply connected to the strength of the support systems surrounding birthing people. Too often, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) experience isolation, inadequate care, and systemic barriers that make it difficult to access the resources needed for emotional and psychological well-being after birth. This session will explore the impact of intergenerational wisdom, traditional healing practices, and trauma-informed approaches in addressing postpartum depression, anxiety, and overall wellness. During the postpartum period BIPOC birthing people can experience shifts in their minds, bodies and spirits that can be ignited and exacerbated by experiences of emotional pain, grief, anxiety, and depression. Furthermore, families experiencing pregnancy or infant loss may feel isolated, guilty, and angry, navigating profound grief without the covering of a village. In many BIPOC communities, there exists a culture of shame and silence around naming their mental and emotional needs and struggles. Society perpetuates the myth that seeking support is a sign of a weakness and this harmful narrative can be amplified during the 4th trimester, especially in communities of color. Together, we are breaking the stigma and acknowledging the courage and strength it takes for BIPOC birthing people to reach out for support. We invite the community to join us for an open dialogue and collective healing experience as we exchange tools and resources, cultivate a sense of connection through storytelling, and remind every birthing person, caregiver, partner and family members that they are not alone.</image:caption>

<image:title>2025 Events - “Policy for Progress: Advancing Postpartum Well-being through Organizing, Advocacy and ACTion” - Friday, May 9, 2025</image:title>
<image:caption>“Policy for Progress: Advancing Postpartum Well-being through Organizing, Advocacy and ACTion” Join us for Day 6 of the National Postpartum Awareness Week (PAW) for Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) as we explore the power of policy and advocacy in shaping a future where postpartum care is holistic, accessible, and culturally responsive. Experts in maternal health, reproductive justice, and policy reform will discuss the importance of paid family leave, Medicaid expansion, mental health access, workplace protections, and community-based support systems. Attendees will gain insights on how to advocate for legislative changes that uplift and protect postpartum people while ensuring accountability within healthcare institutions. The event will emphasize the necessity for comprehensive education on policy at local, state, and federal levels that directly impacts the quality and accessibility of reproductive healthcare. Every community must be armed with the knowledge of the local, state, and federal policies that significantly influence the quality of their lives and healthcare. This is especially true for BIPOC communities who are most likely to be adversely impacted when policies either don’t exist or are inequitably or ineffectively applied. This session aims to empower participants to understand and take action in these crucial aspects of advocacy and policy-making, as a means to combat the systemic issues that have long affected BIPOC communities. By amplifying collective action and policy-driven solutions, we can advance reproductive justice and create lasting structural change—building a society where all birthing people receive the support they need to thrive in the postpartum period and beyond.</image:caption>

<image:title>2025 Events - "We Are the Future, We Are the Change: Reimagining Reproductive Justice Through Art, Culture & Innov - Saturday, May 10, 2025 CLOSING CEREMONY 1:00PM-3:30PM</image:title>
<image:caption>"We Are the Future, We Are the Change: Reimagining Reproductive Justice Through Art, Culture & Innovation" True transformation in postpartum care and advocacy requires a fundamental shift in how we lead, teach, and co-create change. The future of reproductive justice is being shaped by young people—those who are bold, expressive, sexually liberated, and unafraid to challenge oppressive systems. They are activists, artists, tech innovators, healers, and organizers who are dismantling outdated paradigms and building a new world where Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) birthing people have full autonomy, support, and access to the care they deserve. For this final, youth-led session of National Postpartum Awareness Week, we are passing the mic to diverse young leaders—LGBTQIA+, non-binary, Black, Indigenous, immigrants, neurodivergent individuals, and others—who are at the forefront of transforming sexual and reproductive health through radical imagination, innovation, and creativity. Through art, culture, technology, and storytelling, they will lead an interactive experience that reclaims power, disrupts oppressive systems, and redefines what postpartum justice looks like for the next generation. This session will challenge traditional leadership models and demonstrate how decolonized, community-centered approaches can radically shift postpartum care. Expect a vibrant, experiential space where ancestral wisdom meets future-forward activism, and where the next generation of birth justice leaders teach us all how to dream beyond what is, and co-create what must be. Because the future is already here. And the change is now.</image:caption>

<image:title>2025 Events - “Honoring the Hands That Guide: Celebrating Midwifery and Birth Justice" - Opening Ceremony Sunday, May 4, 2025 3:00pm-5:30pm EST</image:title>
<image:caption>“Honoring the Hands That Guide: Celebrating Midwifery and Birth Justice" CALLING ALL MIDWIVES!! Join us for the virtual kickoff of the National Postpartum Awareness Week (PAW) for Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) 2025. Join us for the virtual kickoff of the National Postpartum Awareness Week (PAW) for Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) 2025. The opening ceremony for our week-long virtual series will honor the “International Day of the Midwife” as we celebrate the present-day contributions of midwives of color who are serving mothers, birthing people, babies and families across the nation and around the globe. Whether they are lay midwives, certified midwives, nurse midwives, or indigenous midwives, ALL of these powerful practitioners are invaluable to ensuring safe pregnancy and postpartum outcomes for BIPOC communities in the US and abroad. During this community convening, we will engage in ritual, ceremony, artistry and dialogue to demonstrate the impact that BIPOC midwives have in reproductive healthcare. We will hear the voices of those who have devoted their lives to providing holistic, respectful and compassionate care during the most sacred time in a person’s life; pregnancy, birthing and postpartum. We will pay special attention to the legacy of Grand Midwives (“Granny” Midwives) and Indigenous Midwives around the world, to honor them as chief knowledge bearers of pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care for BIPOC communities. In these times when hospitals are inaccessible and/or unwilling to serve marginalized, racialized and under-resourced communities equitably, the role of the midwife and the unique skills and gifts that they possess, provides vital support before, during, and after childbirth. Today, as we face ongoing disparities in postpartum care, midwifery—one of the oldest professions in the world—remains a beacon of hope. Let’s come together to recognize midwives, their wisdom, and their power to transform what competent and compassionate care looks like in the 4th trimester. #MidwivesSaveLives #InternationalDayOfTheMidwife</image:caption>
