“Power to the People: Bringing Reproductive Justice To Life Through Politics, Policy, & Partnership”

Join us for Day #6 of the National Postpartum Awareness Week for Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC).

This session will focus on the pivotal role of policy, legislation, and advocacy in shaping reproductive healthcare outcomes for birthing people of color.

In recognition of National Postpartum Awareness Week, we are proud to announce a virtual panel discussion scheduled for Friday, May 10, 2024. This event is part of a 7-day series designed to spotlight the critical gaps in reproductive and postpartum healthcare that disproportionately affect Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) in the United States. These gaps contribute to near-death and fatal outcomes, making this an urgent public health issue.

The event will emphasize the necessity for comprehensive education on policy at local, state, and federal levels that directly impacts the quality and accessibility of reproductive healthcare. Every community must be armed with the knowledge of the local, state, and federal policies that significantly influence the quality of their lives and healthcare. This is especially true for BIPOC communities who are most likely to be adversely impacted when policies either don’t exist or are inequitably or ineffectively applied.

Our panel will feature esteemed professionals of color who are not only experts in healthcare policy but also deeply connected to the communities they serve. Through storytelling and the sharing of lived experiences by community members, the speakers will provide valuable insights and resources. This approach ensures that the information is not only informative but also resonates on a personal level, fostering a deeper understanding and engagement. The session aims to empower participants to understand and take action in these crucial aspects of advocacy and policy-making, as a means to combat the systemic issues that have long affected BIPOC communities.
