Hands of Healing; Voices for Justice:  Honoring the Sacred Power of Midwifery”

CALLING ALL MIDWIVES, BIRTHWORKERS & STAKEHOLDERS IN REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH!!

Join us for the virtual Opening Ceremony of the National Postpartum Awareness Week (PAW) for Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) 2026 with a sacred virtual gathering that uplifts midwives and birthworkers as essential architects of postpartum healing and birth justice for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities. Held in recognition of the International Day of the Midwife, this opening ceremony celebrates the living legacy and present-day leadership of midwives of color who serve families across the United States and around the world.

Through ritual, ceremony, artistry, and collective dialogue, participants will witness the transformative impact of BIPOC midwives in reproductive healthcare and hear from practitioners devoted to providing holistic, respectful, and compassionate care during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. We will honor the ancestral lineage of Grand (“Granny”) Midwives and Indigenous Midwives as sacred knowledge bearers whose wisdom continues to shape culturally rooted models of care today.

As hospitals remain inaccessible or inequitable for many marginalized and under-resourced communities, this session lifts up midwifery as both an ancient practice and a contemporary pathway toward justice, safety, and dignity in the fourth trimester. Together, we gather to recognize the hands that guide, the lives they protect, and the collective power of midwives to reimagine postpartum care for generations to come.
